Forming a Team in Singapore

For Leave a Nest Model to be fully established in Singapore, we would need local talents and scientists who share our visions. This October, we have taken time to plan and execute our campaign.

The main message for students:

Discover Your Own Potential!

Rise Above Your Limits!

Join Us in a New Realm of Science Venture Business.

We are not hard selling our company ‘goodness’ but by showcasing what we do, I hope to bring across the message to students that they could do a lot more things with their science degree. A lot of things that are interesting, exciting and meaningful!

Our 3 Projects:

1)    Nurturing Young Scientists

Together with the Universities and industries, we would support young scientists henceforth promoting the development of cutting edge science technologies.

2)    Education Support Project

Education for our next generation is vital in our knowledge-based society and Leave a Nest supports education programs from development and production of education resources to execution of high quality education programs with Universities and companies.

3)    Local Revitalization Project

Leave a Nest cooperates with Universities, the industries and the public to create new products from these unique local resources. Consequently, with our involvement in the development, marketing and promotion of these new products, we contribute to the growth of the local industries.

In Singapore, our current focus is on the ‘Education Support Project’ where we collaborate with the Singapore Science Centre, schools and industrial partners on workshops, kits development and research-based education. Recently, we have embarked upon another project to nurture young scientists. In this project, we provide grants and training program for Science and engineering students who are interest to venture with us in the new realm of Science Businesses.

A day before our 9th anniversary celebration

SN3M0117_0001

A half-day staff’s training program was done today. It was INTERESTING. I have heard from different people in the company on how Leave a Nest developed and became such a multi-dimension company. However, in today’s seminar the whole map of the development path was finally pieced together like a complete jiz saw puzzle. The actual people who started the respective project spoke on their experiences and I realized that these people were actually in the same shoes that I am in-as I am starting-up the Singapore version of Leave a Nest. It was not easy work and only with perseverance would success come. I felt a little relieved coz’ I am not totally alone on this and that I am actually working with very very capable partners/friends. We would make Leave a Nest Singapore just as successful.

The second part of the training program is on actual business talks and negotiation. New staffs are paired with more experienced staffs to ‘sell’ their ‘product’ to other industries. This is actually a role-playing and training session: The industrial people are actually our own staff and the pair (new staff taking the lead) is to convince the industrial people that our products are good in their own style and words. To elaborate further on this training, the pair actually meets the client in other room and the whole process is showed live in the other room. This is really a good learning experience on how we could present ourselves to our customers, what are our (Leave a Nest) strengths and weaknesses also became obvious during this session.

Looking forward to the next sharing session!

Working with the Singapore Science Centre

The first talk about this project was done sometime in January 2011 during Leave a Nest’s first visit to Singapore. The miraculous thing was that most of the consensus was formulated via e-mails. Like most projects, problems arise and so did it with this project. The quake came and we have to shelf the Miso workshop for the time being. We tried to get ‘Big companies’ to work with us but they were busy with the quake too. We were grateful that the Science centre took up our proposal for the Singapore Science Festival 2011 (July 22-28).

This summer with our plant factory know-how (with Venix), we would bring in the house production and consumption concept and during the festival at Suntec, we would showcase one of our workshop. In additional, with Globax, we would bring in the first Japanese produced Robotics workshop in Singapore. This project would be our debut and with our entrance, we look forward to integrate into the Singapore education scene and make a difference in this field. We are quite excited coz we would also work with as many partners to realize our vision.

The above is a tale of how Scientists could make a difference in the society through the business arena. I foresee many more PhD holders (Science) to take up leadership roles in the international business scene.
